It's raining... AGAIN...

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

I am usually okay with the rain... but man! Today I am going a bit stir crazy!

I fell in love with the shoes on the right but they ended up being a half size too big. Are my feet shrinking? Since when am I a size 5? At least the shoes that come in my tiny size are purple! I am usually a Nike girl so we will see how I like these Brooks. Apparently seasoned runners run in Brooks... Does this make me a big girl runner?

I don't think I will ever tire of looking in the rear view mirror and seeing the hand holding. It melts my heart every time.

Kitchen Tip for Juicers: Keep a bowl in the fridge of leftover fruit and veggie scraps and then juice them next time you juice! With 2 toddlers we always end up with scraps of some kind. Usually it is apple cores, pear cores, any other half eaten produce, and strawberry tops. We really like the flavor that the strawberry tops adds!

I spent an entire day last week going through stuff to get us ready for our garage sale next week. I found a lot of gems that I had forgotten about!

One of the banana shirt's that my junior year cheer squad made together... I actually can't remember what the cheer was that went along with this though...

I thought that this broken necklace was lost forever! My grandma gave this necklace to me before she died and I was so sad when it broken and then again when it was lost. I can't wait to (have my Mom) re-string it, wear it and think of Grandma B.

I found a box with all of my notes from high school. I didn't read any of them because I was on a roll with the cleaning and organizing but it is going to be hilarious (and embarrassing) to read through them all!

90's girls loved JTT! Haha I found MANY TeenBeat posters! Lot's of Nysnc, Backstreet Boys, and Hanson stuff was found too. I loved my boy bands!

Kenley is becoming an expert and hide and go seek.

Favorite hiding spot #1... under a blanket while yelling "I'm hiding!"

Favorite hiding spot #2... standing in the kitchen drinking almond milk also yelling "I'm hiding!"

My Dad's birthday was on Sunday so on Monday the girls went out to Pho with him for lunch. I was a little bit worried about trying the Pho because he was been talking about it for so long and he likes weird foods... But it was actually really yummy!

I can't wait to blog about my Dad's birthday present! It is awesome but we have to give it to him before I can blog about it.... It also needs to stop raining first!!!!!

I have started drinking lemon water every morning. I am actually kinda hooked on it now. It is tart but after the first sip you get used to it and it feels really good on your throat!

Those are sweet potato slips in the background! If it stops raining they will get planted today and then hopefully come fall we will have an abundant supply of sweet potatoes!

Time for me to go shower and then start brewing some Kombucha!!! Also on the agenda for the day is spin class with my friend Chloe! I haven't been to spin since I sprained my ankle on Easter... Vicki is going to kick my butt.... or rather my thighs and calves!

Giraffes!

Thursday, June 21, 2012

Last Saturday was our friend Ethan's 1st birthday party at the zoo! It was a cloudy overcast day in Seattle and it looked like it might rain but thankfully the rain held off and the cool weather actually turned out to be perfect zoo weather! Kenley loves giraffes!

Kenley and I paid the $5 to feed the giraffes! I am glad that we did it. I think she was pretty surprised how big they are up close and how long their tongues are!

Claire really enjoyed her cupcake. Don't worry... I do not plan to be one of those Moms who don't let their kids eat junk food at birthday parties! Bring on the cupcakes!

I have never seen a peacock like this before. It was truly amazing. When we saw this all we could think was "Wow, God is really amazing" seriously. He designed that! It's amazing!

Kenley loved getting to pet the goats! It kinda made me want a goat. kinda...

Fun trip to the zoo!

Does anyone know if Jennings Park still has a petting zoo? or if not where another one is? I think it would be a fun summer activity for the girls!

Adoption Run 10k Race Recap!

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

June 9th, Brian, Brenda, the girls, and I ran The Adoption Run 10k on Centennial Trail in Snohomish. Proceeds from the adoption run go to Antioch Adoptions whose goal is to provide no fee adoptions for local Christian families.

Pre-race snuggles with my CLo...

Kenley hamming it up before the race...

Stretching with Granny Brenda...

The run went great! Brian pushed the girls in the stroller and ran at his own pace while Brenda and I stuck together. We finished in 1 hour and 1 minute. We were hoping for under an hour but we were both pretty pleased that we ran the whole thing and that we completed our first 10k race!

Here are some screenshots that I snagged from the website...

In the following picture you will see that at the end Brenda decided to sprint it out. I could not keep up with her. I would however like the record to note the difference in our leg lengths :)

After the race our sweaty group picture!

Just Ordinary Life...

Monday, June 18, 2012

I do not have some big excuse for why my blog has been abandoned the past week or so, just plain old life. Brian was away this past week on a camping trip so the girls and I tried to keep busy! We are very glad to have him back. I ran out of photo storage space on my iPhone yesterday and it has been refusing to let me take any pictures until I upload everything to my computer... Since I am forced to do that I might as well post some to the good ol' blog right?   :)

Kale chips... we love them. This batch tasted just like French Onion Sun Chips. Claire ate half the batch... this is the crumb trail she left behind. I really can't complain though because my 18 month old is eating kale. lots of it. I'll post the recipe next time I make them! Speaking of kale, Trader Joe's had organic bagged kale today! It was kind of like Christmas morning. :)

It is June-uary here in the PNW. Cold, gray, and rainy. Kenley doesn't care and insisted on wearing her "suit". I have to hide it from her or she will want to wear it every day and everywhere.

We found something at the park that Claire likes!

Yes, That is underwear on her head. Yes, It is a clean pair. No, I do not know why it is there. Yes, 2 minutes later she did get another pair and attempt to put it on Claire's head.

I sent Brian a text last week asking him to pick up butter. He bought organic without even being asked! He is a keeper!
I took this picture in the middle of the night (morning?) and then remembered taking it the next day. weird.

I made cupcakes for Ethan's 1st birthday party at the zoo. I used The Pioneer Woman's recipe. It is the best.  Not healthy at all. But the best.

Since Ethan's party was at the zoo, this is how we decorated the cupcakes! Thank you Pinterest. (Kenley keeps her little plastic giraffe with her at all times now.)

We weren't quite sure how we could transport all of the cupcakes to the zoo. It donned on me that we should call a grocery store and ask if they sell the plastic cupcake thingys! They do and at .50 cents a piece it was totally worth it!

I am convinced that I need more probiotics and healthy bacteria in my diet. I am starting with a small spoonful of sauerkraut a day. The name makes it sound much more intimidating than it tastes. I think it tastes a bit like pickles.

Also Kombucha. Again with the probiotics and healthy digestion stuff. I really like this brand. But at over $3.50 each I am contemplating making homemade. Does anyone have any experience with homemade Kombucha???

She is definitely Brians. She was chowing down on the olives. Ew.

Look who got a big girl car seat! It is so fun to look back in the rear view mirror and see both of my girls faces! It is also way more fun for Claire now since she can see the DVD screen rather than just having to listen to it while Kenley watches. I am a little sad that we no longer have a baby car seat in our car... I'm also a little sad that we no longer have a baby. Ever since Claire started walking last week it was like she jumped straight into toddler land.

Two seconds after I took this picture Max (who was on the leash I had) wrapped around Kenley a bunch of times just like what happens in the movies. It was a tangled mess of dog, leash, and crying child. She keeps asking to walk Rucker again though so it must not have scared her too much.

That's about it from the last few weeks!

See ya soon with a Zoo post and a post about the Adoption Run 10k that we did on the 9th!

Grain Free Chocolate Chip Cookies

Friday, June 8, 2012

These chocolate chip cookies are so yummy! They are grain free and mostly refined sugar free! These cookies are also super quick to whip up when that sweet craving hits which makes living without wheat just a little bit easier! Brian really liked them too and he is pretty leery of all the new wheat free things that I have been trying lately!

Grain Free Chocolate Chip Cookies
Based on Detoxinista's Grain Free Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups blanched almond flour (Make your own!)
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 16 cranks pink salt :) (yes, I am super scientific)
  • 2 tablespoons softened grass fed butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (Make your own!)
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. In a large bowl combine almond flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a different bowl combine egg, softened butter, vanilla, and maple syrup.
  4. Gradually add wet mixture to dry mixture, once combined add mini chips.
  5. Drop by rounded teaspoon full onto a baking stone and cook for 12 minutes. They spread quite a bit so give them lots of room!
  6. Enjoy and try not to eat the whole batch! :)
Notes:
- I prefer the Enjoy Life brand of mini chocolate chips.
- These cookies aren't super sturdy but they are soft and fluffy so I am okay with the not very sturdy aspect. I would recommend against stacking them on a plate.
- I usually get about 18 cookies per batch. Feel free to double or triple the recipe!
