Mirror Mirror

I have been wanting to make some faux mercury glass vases and such for quite a while but I could never find this paint: I have been searching for this paint since BEFORE Martha did this craft in her magazine a few months ago! Every time I went to Michaels I searched the spray paint area but could never find it even though the Krylon website claims that Michaels carries it. We called multiple Michaels stores to try to track it down with no luck. Turns out my Michaels store has carried it all along I was just looking in the wrong place! It was hidden back with the glass paints on the very bottom shelf!

I really shouldn't have used such a curvy vase with a small opening. In the picture it looks great but in real life it turned out to be a little streaky. MaryJanes and Galoshes posted step by step directions for how to make this project go smoothly so I will just refer you to her :). I hope to find some more thrift store vases to transform soon! Last night as I was reading in 2 Corinthians 3 I came across a reference to mirrors that really struck me since I had just done this project.

2 Corinthians 3:18
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

The notes in my MacArthur Study Bible say that the mirrors in Paul's day we made not of glass but of polished metal and offered a far from perfect reflection. Much like the imperfect reflection of my vase.

1 Corinthians 13:12
For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

I wasn't really in love with my mirrored vase until reading these verses. Now every time I look at my mirrored vase I am reminded that right now our view and understanding of God is veiled and imperfect but one day we will get to see the awesome glory of God in person! How exciting!
